Abbott, Jay - Product Manager, Antix Labs

Jay Abbott is a Product Manager at Antix Labs, where he applies the technical and commercial experience gained from the console and mobile games industries to help realise portable games across embedded devices. He started his career as a programmer in the console games industry and subsequently co-founded Hailstorm Entertainment, a mobile games development company creating high quality downloadable and embedded content. Jay has since worked on embedded graphics technologies such as OpenVG and SVG. Jay has BSc Honours degree in Creative and Scientific Visualisation from the University of Teesside.


Arnaud, Remi - Sr. Graphics Architect, Intel Corporation

Remi is working in the Advanced Visual Computing group at Intel as Sr. Graphics Architect. He previously worked in the R&D department of Thomson Training & Simulation, in the IRIS Performer team at Silicon Graphics, was co-founder of Intrinsic Graphics, and lately Graphics Architect at Sony Computer Entertainment US R&D.


Astle, Dave - Sr. Engineer, Co-Founder of GameDev.net,

Dave Astle has been programming games professionally for several years. Currently, he is a senior engineer and one of the lead OpenGL ES developers at QUALCOMM Inc. He is the cofounder of GameDev.net, and the co-author of OpenGL ES Game Development, OpenGL Game Programming, and Beginning OpenGL Game Programming.


Atkin, Phil - Director of Strategic Marketing, NVIDIA

Phil Atkin has approaching 25 years of 3D graphics experience in engineering, management and business. He founded Division Group PLC, an early Virtual Reality pioneer, and Pixelfusion, a 3D silicon company. He is currently Director of Strategic Marketing for NVIDIA's Handheld Business Unit, and is based out of the UK.


Barnes, Mark - Graphics Architect, Intel Advanced Visual Computing, Intel Corporation

Mark is a Graphics Architect working in the Advanced Visual Computing group at Intel. He was previously a Staff Software Engineer and the COLLADA Project Lead at Sony Computer Entertainment US R&D. Mark is the chairman for the COLLADA working group. Mark is a coauthor of the book "COLLADA: Sailing the Gulf of 3D Digital Content Creation" and has given presentations about COLLADA design and features at Siggraph 2004-2007, Eurographics 2005, Imagina 2005, IGDA SF 2005, and GDC 2005.


Beets, Kristof - 3rd Party Relations Manager, PowerVR

Kristof Beets is the 3rd Party Relations Manager for PowerVR at Imagination Technologies. He joined Imagination in 2001 where he has been working with developers and creating SDK content and tools as part of the Developer Relations Group - gaining extensive experience with all Mobile Graphics APIs. In 2005 he joined the Business Development Group where he is now responsible for Partner Relations, Marketing Demos, and the "PowerVR Insider" Technical Support and Co-Marketing Program. Recently he took up the responsibility of Section Editor for the Mobile Graphics section of the ShaderX5 book having written chapters for previous editions. Kristof has a background in Electrical Engineering and received a master's degree in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Leuven, Belgium where he also worked as a junior researcher for the VISICS group.


Bi, Ning - Senior Staff, Manager, Qualcomm

Ning Bi has been with Qualcomm Inc. since 1995. He was the designer of a speech recognition system, PureVoice VR, used in millions of CDMA handsets. More than 10 U.S. Patents have been issued based on his inventions in speech coding, recognition, communication, and graphics processing. He is currently leading 3D graphics engine development to enable OpenGL ES API in Qualcomm's MSM chipsets. Ning received his Ph.D. from University of Arizona.


Bishop, Lars - Handheld Developer Technologies Engineer,, NVIDIA

Lars M. Bishop is an engineer in the Handheld Developer Technologies group at NVIDIA. Previously, he worked for nine years at NDL, makers of the Gamebryo 3D engine. He received a BS from Brown University and an MS from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is the co-author of the book Essential Mathematics for Games and Interactive Applications: A Programmer's Guide.


Castano, Ignacio - Software Engineer, NVIDIA

Ignacio Castano is a software engineer at NVIDIA working on the Developers Tools group. He spends his time designing and implementing tools and technology to help game developers accomplish their goals and assist them in the creation of advanced visual effects. Before joining NVIDIA he did a quick trip through the game industry working at companies like Oddworld Inhabitants, Relic Entertainment and Crytek.


Charig, Francis - Chief Executive, Antix Labs

Francis Charig, a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer for 2006, is the Chief Executive Officer and founder of Antix. During his career he has raised more than $70m in capital investment, is an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year semi-finalist and is the former Chairman of the Open Contents Platform Association, headquartered in Tokyo. Prior to forming Antix, Francis was the co-founder, Chairman & Chief Executive of Tao Group, the pioneer of binary portable, high performance multimedia software. Francis was also the Head of the Trading Systems Business Unit at the London Stock Exchange successfully launching and deploying the world's first digital front office trading system with IBM. Francis began his career as a software engineer at Hoskyns after completing a degree in Political Science. Francis is also a board director of Baillie Gifford Shin Nippon plc, a Japan-focused investment fund.


Coumans, Erwin - Simulation Lead, Sony Computer Entertainment

Erwin Coumans is currently optimizing Physics Simulation for PS3 CELL at Sony Computer Entertainment America. Born in the Netherlands, he studied Computer Science at Eindhoven University. He started working at Guerrilla Games, now part of SCE Worldwide Studios. From there, he traveled around and worked on Collision Detection and Physics for Havok in Ireland and SCEE in London. He is involved in Open Source projects like COLLADA, Blender, Physics Forum and Bullet Physics at http://bullet.sourceforge.net


Durnil, Dave - Engineering lead/ISV manager at QUALCOMM gaming group, QUALCOMM

Dave Durnil has 13 years of experience which includes seven years in the wireless industry. He is the engineering lead/ISV manager for the QUALCOMM gaming group. Durnil leads engineering efforts focusing on 3D gaming and graphics applications research for QUALCOMM's next generation hardware. He has extensive knowledge in the areas of 3D graphics development for wireless devices, mobile software/hardware technologies, and handheld graphics technical marketing. He also has in-depth experience working with ODMs, OEMS, Operators and wireless content developers including the launching, promoting and sustaining of wireless content in a global market. Before joining QUALCOMM he was a lead engineer on several NASA space programs developing real-time 3D simulations including the Mars '98 Orbiter and '01 Lander. Durnil is the co-author of OpenGL ES Game Development, and a regular speaker at several mobile gaming and graphics industry events.


Gold, Michael - Technical Lead of the Core OpenGL team , NVIDIA

Michael Gold joined NVIDIA in 1997 and is currently Technical Lead of the Core OpenGL team where he has been a driving force behind the industry's highest quality implementations. As NVIDIA’s ARB representative, Michael has been instrumental in the evolution of OpenGL; and is now a catalyst for the “new object model revolution” as a primary innovator behind key portions of OpenGL 3.0.


Horowitz, Daniel - Software Engineer, NVIDIA

Daniel is a software engineer at NVIDIA and is the Chairman of COLLADA FX Sub-Working Group. His work concentrates on improving content creation for PCs, consoles, and handheld devices. Prior to NVIDIA, he worked with Microsoft's Direct3D Solutions team concentrating on content creation and workflow technologies. Daniel has also worked on game engine's animation system and content pipeline for Halo2 at Bungie, engaged in game development at Electronic Arts, and procedurally generated stylizations of animation at Intel.


Hyun, Dr. Dae-Eun - Ph.D, Senior Engineer, Samsung

Dae-Eun Hyun is a Senior Engineer at Samsung Electronics. He has over 5 years experience of graphics system and algorithm design. He received a B.Sc, M.Sc from Pohang University of Science and Technology and a Ph.D from Seoul National University. After joining Samsung Electronics, he has worked on 2D and 3D graphics techniques for Embedded Systems. His research focus has been on 2D morphing, 3D shape modeling, 3D motion design and character animation.


Kazakov, Maxim - Software Engineer, Digital Media Professionals

In DMP, Maxim Kazakov is among people responsible for architecture of software and hardware solutions in 3D graphics accelerator products. For the 3+ years of work he participated in development of Ultray 2000(TM) and PICA(TM) series of graphics accelerators. Maxim holds a M.Sc. (Applied Math) and Ph.D. (Computer Graphics) from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology.


Kekalainen, Fredrik - General Manager, , Acrodea Inc

Fredrik joined Acrodea Inc., in April 2006 as General Manager of Acrodea's Europe based product development center. Acrodea Inc. headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, is a leading provider of middleware software solutions to the mobile industry. Fredrik currently manages Acrodea's core graphics (3D/2D), gaming and platform development, roadmaps and international standardization efforts. Prior to joining Acrodea, Fredrik was CTO and co-founder of Fathammer Ltd., an early pioneer in developing 3D graphics and game engine technologies for mobile platforms. Prior to co-founding Fathammer in 2000, Fredrik was R&D manager at Nedecon Plc. and director at Eighball Media Ltd. an early pioneer of mobile and multimedia software technologies, which he co-founded in 1996. Fredrik has more than 10 years of experience in developing commercial multimedia and mobile software technologies and has given frequent presentations and participated in panel discussions at key industry events such as IMAGINA, GDC (Korea), Intel Developer Forum, CTIA (IEEE). "


Klumpp, Ulrich - Speaker, e frontier America, Inc

Ulrich grew up and went to school in Stuttgart, Germany. While pursuing his degree in media computer science, he got involved with computer graphics. After working three years in product management and software development for the former parent company of e frontier America, Ulrich relocated and joined the California operation in early 2004. He now serves as director of product development, overseeing the Poser product and related efforts.


Kondris, Steve - Sr. Mgr. of Product Marketing, DAZ 3D

Steve has been with DAZ 3D since they began in 2000 and has been involved with several departments at DAZ as the company has grown. Currently, Steve manages product marketing for Bryce, Carrara, DAZ|Studio, Hexagon, and Mimic. DAZ 3D has built a reputation as a premier resource of the best 3D assets and software available online with an ever-expanding library of 3D models, accessories, and tools that currently totals over 4,000 unique items. DAZ 3D now offers a free Collada exporter to allow anyone to use the vast DAZ digital content assets in their own production pipeline.


Kuniyoshi, Yoshio - Vice President & CTO, Acrodea

Lee, Hwanyong - Chief Researcher, HUONE

Hwanyong Lee is the chief researcher at MTIS, a mobile solution development company. He has a BS in Computer Science at KAIST / MS in Computer Engineering at POSTECH. He helped develop the AlexVG vector graphic software engine supporting the Khronos OpenVG 1.0 specification.


Lengyel, Eric - Chief Researcher, Terathon Software

Eric Lengyel is Chief Technology Officer at Terathon Software, where he leads development of the C4 Engine, a full-featured cross-platform gaming engine. He is also author of the book Mathematics for 3D Game Programming and Computer Graphics and a major contributor to several other publications.


Lim, Jitaek - Senior Engineer, Vector Graphics, Samsung

Jitaek Lim has been developing and researching 2D vector graphics for several years, including working experiences from a former company. He received a B.E from Seoul National University and a Master's degree of computer science from University of Southern California. After joining Samsung Electronics, he has focused on vector graphics, especially for efficient 2D animation rendering algorithms on embedded systems.


Lipchak, Benj - Editor, OpenGL Pipeline; Manager Handheld 3D Software, AMD

Benj formerly wrote OpenGL desktop drivers and managed a driver team at ATI, during which time he was chairperson of two OpenGL ARB working groups. Now he manages a handheld 3D software team at AMD. Benj represents AMD in the OpenGL ES working group and edits Khronos's quarterly OpenGL Pipeline newsletter. He coauthored the most recent two editions of OpenGL SuperBible. Benj holds degrees in computer science and technical writing from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and currently studies business in the MBA program at Babson.


Maher, Kathleen - Vice President; Editor-in-Chief, Tech Watch

Kathleen Maher has worked as an analyst and journalist in technical fields for more than ten years. In addition she has been a founding editor for several publications including the Austin Chronicle, a successful politics and entertainment magazine which has won several awards and has launched the careers of many notable writers in the fields of political journalism, entertainment, and fiction. In addition Maher helped launch Interactivity, a monthly multimedixa magazine that defined the need for informational resources for creative professionals. She was Editor-in-Chief of Cadence Magazine, the award winning resource for CAD users. Formerly, Maher was the Editor-in-Chief of The Peddie Report, one of the most respected insider reports published today. She is the author of several well received reports including the DVD Study and the regular Quarterly Report and a frequent contributor to several publications including Communication Arts.


Mori, Koichi - Senior Research Engineer, Nokia

Koichi Mori is a Senior Research Engineer at Nokia Research Center. He has over 5 years experience of vector graphics technology. He joined Nokia in 2000. His research focus has been on mobile Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) and use of mobile graphics technology for advanced Graphical User Interface, as well as visualization techniques for small screen. Prior to joining Nokia, he worked on raster-vector graphics conversion techniques at University of Tsukuba in Japan. He is a member of the JSR 226 expert group.


Niemela, Sami - Manager Mobile Products, Futuremark

Sami Niemela works as manager of mobile products at Futuremark. During his 4 year tenure with Futuremark, Sami has been working as project manager for PCMark series and SPMark04 as well as custom technology demos. He holds a M.Sc. (Eng.) from Lappeenranta University of Technology.


Norbury, Ken - Director of Sales and Marketing, Sonaptic

Ken Norbury is Director of Sales and Marketing at Sonaptic. With more than 25 years in the high-technology industry, and formerly as Vice President of California-based handheld technology company Geoworks Corporation, Ken joined Sonaptic in 2004. In his time with the company he has seen its 3D Audio technology incorporated into major manufacturers' handset devices and incorporated in silicon designs from major suppliers. Ken believes that continuing its already strong industry leadership in API design is an important part of Sonaptic's role in the industry and vital for the success of 3D Audio technology in handheld devices.


Olson, Tom - Technical Staff Mobile Graphics R&D, Texas Instruments

Tom Olson is responsible for mobile graphics technology R&D at the corporate research laboratories of Texas Instruments, Inc. He has been a member of the Khronos OpenGL ES Working Group since its founding, and currently serves as the group's chairman. Before joining Texas Instruments, he was Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the University of Virginia. He holds MS and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the University of Rochester.


Peddie, Jon - Founder, Jon Peddie Research

Dr. Jon Peddie is a pioneer of the graphics industry, starting his career in computer graphics in 1962. After the successful launch of several graphics manufacturing companies, Peddie began Jon Peddie Associates in 1984 to provide comprehensive data, information and management expertise to the computer graphics industry. With those same goals in mind, he left JPA to form Jon Peddie Research in 2001 to provide a more customer intimate environment for clients, and to further explore the business of multimedia. Peddie lectures at numerous conferences on topics pertaining to graphics technology and the emerging trends in digital media technology. Recently named one of the most influential industry analysts, he is frequently quoted in trade and business publications, and contributes articles to numerous publications including as well as appearing on CNN and TechTV. Peddie is also the author of several books including Graphics User Interfaces and Graphics Standards, High Resolution Graphics Display Systems, and Multimedia and Graphics Controllers. Jon Peddie is recognized as one of the leading analysts in the country by AdWeek Magazine.


Pihlajakoski, Tero - Graphics Research Engineer, Nokia

Tero Pihlajakoski has over 10 years of hobbyist programming experience, a lot of which is related to 2D and 3D computer graphics. He currently works as a graphics research engineer at Nokia, where he is involved in OpenVG and OpenGL ES standardization work. Tero graduated from the University of Oulu in 2004 as a M. Sc. (Tech.).


Plowman, Ed - 3D Graphics Product Manager, ARM Ltd.

Ed Plowman has more than 10 years of experience in media and graphics processing. Ed is currently employed as 3D Graphics Products Manager with ARM Ltd, guiding ARM's 3D graphics processing strategy. He also represents ARM in the OpenGL ES working group and occupies the ARM seat on the Khornos board of promoters. Ed started his career as one of the founding members of Argonaut technologies (an off shoot of Argonaut Software which later became ARC cores), working on CPU based 3D graphics technology which later provided the foundation for the ARC processor core.


Pulli, Kari - Research Fellow, Nokia

Kari Pulli is a Research Fellow at Nokia Research Center in Palo Alto, CA. He has been an active contributor to several mobile graphics standards and heads many graphics research activities at Nokia. Kari has a PhD in computer science from University of Washington and Lic. Tech., M.Sc., and EMBA from University of Oulu, where he also taught computer graphics for several years as an adjunct faculty. Before Nokia, Kari has worked on graphics at Stanford University, Alias|Wavefront, SGI, and Microsoft; for the last two years Kari was also a Visiting Scientist at MIT.


Renouf, Tim - Systems Architect, Antix Labs

Tim Renouf is a Systems Architect at Antix Labs in the UK. Since completing a degree in Mathematics at Cambridge University in 1988, Tim's career has involved him in compiler, debugger and virtual machine architecture, in the mobile space since 1997. Tim is now Specification Editor and one of the technical leads for Khronos's OpenKODE standard, and is advising the team responsible for its implementation within Antix Labs.


Rice, Dan - Senior Staff Engineer, Sun Microsystems

Dan Rice is a Senior Staff Engineer at Sun Microsystems, Inc., where he has worked since 1994 in the areas of imaging, graphics and multimedia software. He has participated in or led numerous standarization efforts including the Java Advanced Imaging API, JSR 15 (Java Image I/O API), JSR 226 (Mobile SVG), JSR 231 (Java language bindings for OpenGL) and JSR 239 (Java language bindings for OpenGL ES). He is currently the specification editor for the Khronos OpenVG API. He holds a B.A. in Mathematics from Swarthmore College and an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley.


Sarkkinen, Tero - Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Futuremark Corporation

Tero Sarkkinen has over 5 years of experience in various management positions with Futuremark Corporation. Currently Tero is Futuremark's Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing and in charge of their US subsidiary. In his tenure, he has raised the profile of benchmarking and led the company's expansion to new areas, including OpenGL ES graphics performance testing. He is a frequent speaker in industry events and works closely with the major technology, semiconductor and integrator companies in the field. He holds a M.Sc. (Econ. and BA) from the Helsinki School of Economics.


Shah, Maurya - Engineer for QCT Multimedia Software, Qualcomm

Maurya Shah graduated from the University of Southern California with a specialization in Computer Graphics. His research focused on fluid dynamics. Currently, he is working as an application research programmer at Qualcomm. In particular, he is involved in developing content for the BREW/OpenGL ES environment and supporting game developers in porting titles for the Qualcomm graphics platform.


Shapira, Avi - Cofounder & CEO, Graphic Remedy

Graphic Remedy specializes in software applications for the 3D graphics market, specifically tools for 3D graphics developers. The company's mission is to design innovative tools that make 3D graphics programming faster and easier, to save programmers time and money, and to improve graphics application performance and reliability. The company is a Contributor member in the OpenGL ARB and in the Khronos Group.


Suoranta, Timo - Senior Programmer, Futuremark Corporation

Timo Suoranta is Futuremark Corporation's OpenGL ES specialist. Timo has worked on Futuremark's 3DMark, PCMark, PC demo, handheld demo and handheld benchmark projects. Earlier experience includes participation in the demo scene, research and development with embedded safety systems, and hobbyist 3D programming.


Tebeka, Yaki - Cofounder & CTO, Graphic Remedy

Graphic Remedy specializes in software applications for the 3D graphics market, specifically tools for 3D graphics developers. The company's mission is to design innovative tools that make 3D graphics programming faster and easier, to save programmers time and money, and to improve graphics application performance and reliability. The company is a Contributor member in the OpenGL ARB and in the Khronos Group.


Trevett, Neil - Vice President Embedded Content, NVIDIA

Neil Trevett joined NVIDIA in May of 2005. As Vice President of Embedded Content, he is responsible for enabling and encouraging compelling applications on non-PC platforms, including cell phones and automobiles. Prior to joining NVIDIA, Mr. Trevett has spent over twenty years in the 3D graphics industry including Vice President positions at 3Dlabs. Mr. Trevett is currently the elected President of the Khronos Group where Mr. Trevett created and chairs the OpenGL ES working group that has defined the industry standard for 3D graphics on embedded devices. Mr. Trevett holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and Electronic Engineering from the University of Birmingham in the UK.


Vaarala, Jani - Specialist, Nokia

Jani Vaarala has over 15 years of experience in low-level graphics programming. He has been an active member of the demo scene where his team (http://www.pygmyprojects.com) won several awards. Currently Jani works as a graphics architect at Nokia. He has contributed to the OpenGL ES 1.0 and 1.1 standards, and currently participates in OpenGL ES 2.0 and OpenVG standardizations. He received a M.Sc.(Eng.) in 2000 from University of Oulu.
